Shabbat-at-the-Table

When:
Friday evening, October 19, 6:30 p.m.

Judaism does not just happen in shul.

While holidays like Yom Kippur and Simchat Torah are mostly observed in the synagogue, other holidays, like Passover, are primarily home-based.

Home celebrations are important because they infuse the space in which we live so much of our lives with a sense of warmth and spirituality, from the smells of a holiday meal to the sound and rhythm of traditional--and not so traditional--melodies and songs.

Shabbat is celebrated both at home and at the synagogue. Some prefer one to the other, others do them both.

Beit Tikvah encourages both. That's why we offer Friday night services most weeks throughout the year.

To encourage home celebration, Beit Tikvah has begun Shabbat-at-the-Table, a potluck vegetarian/dairy dinner for members and their guests held in one or more of our member's homes on the fourth Friday of alternating months.

Shabbat-at-the-Table is a way to both help you begin your own home celebration and bring our community together.

What should members do to attend:

Contact the synagogue office (410-464-9402) to make reservations.

What you need to bring:

When you call and confirm you are coming, you will be asked to bring either a bottle of juice or soda and a salad, vegetarian/dairy main dish or dessert. Bring a set of candle sticks and candles, if you have them, and you may also bring a home-baked challah if you choose to.

We hope members will take advantage of this lovely opportunity to learn about different families' Friday night Shabbat customs and to celebrate in the warmth and comfort of our community's homes.
