There's a Little Something for Everyone at Beit Tikvah Services
Description of Some of Our Services
Ruach Service
This special service translates the traditional Jewish liturgy into song and music with an emphasis on reaching the ruach (spirit) within ourselves. Guitarist Michael Raitzyk and guest musicians help us raise our voices in prayer. Click here for more details.
Shabbat Morning Torah Service
Shabbat Morning Services are generally led by our Rabbi as well as our lay service leaders. Clergy and congregants participate in the Torah Service, Torah reading, presenting a Dvar Torah, and discussing the meaning and application of the Torah portion. Members of all ages take part in leading sections of the service, and are offered opportunities to develop their service skills. Our younger members may on occasion take part in a Kol HaNoar theatrical presentation of the weekly Torah portion.
Shabbat Morning Torah Study
Join Beit Tikvah for coffee and an opportunity to devote the entire morning to exploring the Torah portion of the week. We will read, study, discuss and interpret in order to reveal the past and present application of Torah to our lives.
Kabbalat Shabbat
We gather on Friday evenings to welcome Shabbat. This service is sometimes rabbi-led and sometimes congregant-led. We have a long-standing tradition of encouraging members to lead all or part of the service. This enables us to share own style and spirit as we teach and as we learn from each other. The Avodah Committee has prepared a Guide and Outline for a Participatory Shabbat (complete with pages in the siddur, options, and a sample service) that is available to all members.
Community Shabbat Seders
Several times during the year we come together around the Shabbat dinner table for a community Shabbat Seder. We gather at the synagogue for a Shabbat (dairy/pareve) potluck dinner preceded by candle lighting, and followed by singing and a brief Kabbalat Shabbat observance.
